As a follower of the Grammys for many years, they almost ALWAYS go for the safest choice or one that will make a statement (for example, Dixie Chicks in 2006.) I think “Shallow” will win for 3 reasons.

    1) Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper are well respected in music/film world.

    2) The movie has given the song a wider audience.

    3) The song is still fairly new and fresh in voters minds.

”This is America” is the second choice, I feel, if the voters want to make a collective statement AND seem cool.

This is between “Shallow” and “This is America”

Anyone who’s followed this category should know that it favors more instrumental records as opposed to computer generated beats. Shallow has a huge advantage there. “The Joke” fits the bill as well. However, it is too small of a hit but man is it amazing. Plus Gaga and the movie will be everywhere in the coming months.

“This is America” is fairly unique in that it combines hip hop with a more acoustic gospel-like choir. Of course, there is the statement as well. A perfect way for voters to looks cool. Also Childish Gambino goes beyond hip hop as he is well respected and mainstream.

The one drawback to “Shallow” is Bradley Cooper. How will other musicians feel if some actor who has never recorded music before, and likely never will again, were to win in the GF on their first try. Especially when Gaga is doing the heavy lifting here. Not to mention he hasn’t even performed live outside of the movie.

“All The Stars” has an outside shot but it isn’t that different than stuff like “Empire State of Mind”.

“Also Childish Gambino goes beyond hip hop as he is well respected and mainstream.”

The structure of this sentence implies that hip hop means lack of respect and not mainstream. Which isn’t true

Sorry if it’s a poor choice of words. I think there is always a bias against hip hop in the general fields and if any hip hop artist can rise above that it’s Childish Gambino because he is big in the entertainment industry.

Did Gaga submit “I’ll Never Love Again” to this category? That song feels more like a ROTY lock than Shallow.

This one is between This Is America and All The Stars. I feel like Kendrick is going to pull off the “upset.”

I’ll never Love Again can be submitted for 2020, same for the soundtrack.

It’s between The Middle and Shallow, with a possible spoil from The Joke.

I see it going to Shallow. A lot of pop, rock, and country voters will have it as their pick so I see it handley going to them. I’m not so sure if the full soundtrack will have a chance to get this much support next year but Shallow should have no problem beating out a lot of competition.

Initially I thought RoTY will go to a rap song this year for the first time. But damn, they stacked this category with rap songs. And I think it’s very unlikely for TIA to pull a win especially when it’s competing against Kendrick Lamar. I even think ATS will outperform it.

The winner is most likely going to be Shallow, since it’s competition is weak:

The Middle doesn’t fit the pattern of previous RoTY winners. It’s too generic and dance-pop for the grammy’s taste.

The Joke can upset, but I feel the song isn’t known/played enough to get the support of a majority of the voters.

I’m pretty sure this is Gaga vs Kendrick, not Gaga vs Gambino.

Shallow is the obvious frontrunner, while Kendrick will probably never be “safer” or “more accessible” for the general field than he is with the BP soundtrack.

Brandi and Drake are the spoilers.

The Grammy voters definitely favor Kendrick over Gambino, while Drake had a much bigger (and less controversial) hit than Gambino.

Right, I just don’t buy TIA being the runner-up. If anything All The Stars hook/chorus sounds pop and can appeal to Pop Voters.

I just can’t imagine traditional voters voting for TIA, just for the social message of it. We’ve seen that times and again social messages don’t matter for the Grammy’s wins. If they did, Beyoncé would’ve won.

However what’s in favor of Kendrick this year, is the fact that Black Panther has such wide appeal that he can get pop vote too.
