    • Christian Bale, Vice
    • Bradley Cooper, A Star Is Born
    • Willem Dafoe, At Eternitys Gate
    • Ryan Gosling, First Man
    • Viggo Mortensen, Green Book
    • ALT: Clint Eastwood, The Mule
    • ALT: Rami Malek, Bohemian Rhapsody

Confident in Bale, Cooper, and Dafoe. Mortensen is still in my predictions though could drop depending on the impact of the controversy, Gosling may benefit from this also. Eastwood could easily come in but when they dated the film they said commerical flick not awards contender. Malek could come in, and I know the experts love him, but I think the overall film reviews will downplay his awards play. Malek in my mind is this year’s Hugh Jackman: Film gets mixed reviews, box office performance is good, fans love it, especially the music, and he gets nominated for a golden globe but not nominated for an Oscar.

Only part 2? Bring on Bale! Shake up the race!

    • Christian Bale – Vice
    • Bradley Cooper – A Star is Born
    • Ryan Gosling – First Man
    • Stephen James – If Beale Street Could Talk
    • Viggo Mortensen – Green Book

I still have Viggo getting in for a nomination but he is not a realistic contender for the win anymore. Bradley most probably ends up as the winner but Bale is not out of the race either.

I can see John David Washington, Ethan Hawke, or Willem Dafoe being spoilers. Clint Eastwood steals a nom if his movie is somewhat acclaimed.

This “controversy” will not be remembered come nominations. The only people who will remember are those on this site and that’s it. The media coverage came and went because he apologized immediately after.

People here are so desperate for drama in a slow awards season that they are willing to declare any little thing a reason someone isn’t going to get in. They exaggerate any tiny factor as the end all be all of someone’s chances. Mortensen’s going to be fine.

I believe the controversy only hurts him securing a win not a nomination.

I’m mad about the fact Viggo won’t get his due Oscar because of political correctness and a selfish co-star.

At least the hero Neil Armstrong will be rewarded this year and Gosling is winning (or maybe Bale).

Barring The Mule being a sleeper smash, I’m increasingly convinced this is Cooper’s to lose. I didn’t even buy Mortensen as a winner prior to his comments.

Dafoe stands a real chance at a nomination, I think. His performance (from what I’ve seen in the trailer and read in reviews) checks off a lot of what Oscar voters want: he plays a real person, his character struggles with a mental illness, the role has already won prizes from top festivals, the director is someone Oscar voters know, and for some, there’s the sentimental overdue factor.

I still have faith in Rami Malek getting a well deserved nomination.

Darling, he’s FANTASTIC and he is obviously due by the Academy. I guess critics will have to reward him to appear in the race.

I swear, if Bradley Cooper doesn’t win Best Actor this year I’m gonna drop out of film…
