“The Walking Dead” fans are in a collective state of mourning as the zombie apocalypse drama just said goodbye to one of its most beloved characters. Carl Grimes (Chandler Riggs), who’s been with the show since Day 1, passed away after being bitten by a walker as he was trying to bring his new friend Siddiq (Avi Nash) to Alexandria. Read our recap of the mid-season premiere, titled “Honor,” to see how Carl said goodbye, and then refresh your memory on all of the other major “The Walking Dead” deaths in order by clicking through our photo gallery above.
From the original Season 1 cast, only three are still alive as of this writing: Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes, Norman Reedus as Daryl Dixon and Melissa McBride as Carol Peletier. Lennie James, who played Morgan Jones in the pilot, later returned to the show as a series regular, though he’ll be leaving at season’s end to join spinoff series “Fear the Walking Dead.”
Besides Carl, other recent deaths that prompted “The Walking Dead” fans to stalk up on the kleenex were: Sasha (Sonequa Martin-Green), who took a cyanide pill to weaponize herself into a walker to try to kill Negan, Spencer (Austin Nichols), who was gutted by Negan after he tried to sell out Rick, and the one-two punch of Glenn (Steven Yeun) and Abraham (Michael Cudlitz), who got their heads bashed in by Negan as a show of force against Rick’s group of survivors.
